NRI doc's name struck off UK register over sexual misconduct Print E-mail
LONDON: An Indian physiotherapist working in Britain has been struck off a professional register after he was charged with intimately touching a woman while she slept in the seat next to him on an overnight flight from the US.

During a hearing, the Health Professions Council (HPC), an independent health regulator in UK, was told that Babu John, who was registered to an address in West Bromwich, accepted a police caution for sexual touching following the incident on May 13, 2007.

His fitness to practice was impaired as a result of the police caution. John, 34, an Indian citizen, informed the HPC about the caution and described it as a “misunderstanding” over consent, the hearing was told.

But John, who did not attend this week's hearing, had not been in touch since then and the panel said it did not have any information about his current activities.

Sandwell Primary Care Trust informed the HPC that John resigned from his post there in June 2007.

The panel heard he may no longer be in the UK as at the time of the incident he had a year left on a five-year work permit.
